Pet Waste and Water Pollution

Scotch Plains has an ordinance that requires pet owners to be directly responsible for disposal of their pet’s waste.

Fines up to $100 - Municipal Code 5-8.7

Pet waste contains microorganisms and these can transmit bacterial diseases, parasitic infections and roundworms to humans. Pet waste gets washed up into our sewers and storm water system, reaching reservoirs which supply much of the drinking water in New Jersey. In addition, pet waste can rob the water body of oxygen, potentially killing all aquatic life in the area.

Put it in the trash or flush it does the toilet (without the bag)
