PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO READ OVER THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING THE SHAWNEE SKI/SNOWBOARD PROGRAM.
The buses will depart from Ponderosa at 3:30 pm. Ponderosa is located at 1600 Cooper Road in Scotch Plains. The buses will not wait for anyone. Please be at Ponderosa by 3:15 pm tomorrow since it is the first day and we will need time to make sure everyone is situated.
Initially we had planned for you to ride whatever bus you signed up for during registration. However, our Head Chaperone (Chris Dill) is requiring that all participants who are taking lessons, renting equipment, or picking up add-ons ride on Bus #1. This means that all other participants can ride on any bus they’d like. BUT --- Whatever bus participants ride on to get to Shawnee must be the same bus they take back to Scotch Plains.
All participants must return back to the buses by 9:45 pm to plan for departure back to Scotch Plains. Parents can expect buses to return to Ponderosa between 11:00 – 11:30 pm.
Ski/snowboard boots are not allowed on the bus. This is the bus company’s rule. Boots can cause a great deal of damage to the bus floors and seats.
Participants are allowed to bring snacks on the bus, but it is their own responsibility to dispose of garbage properly. Chaperones will have garbage bags on the bus, but if there is any mess or damage to the buses, there could be penalties or charges for the individuals leaving the mess or causing the damage. Additionally, the entire group will lose snack privileges.
Inappropriate language, illegal substances, or conduct detrimental to Recreation Department programs will not be tolerated and may result in loss of ski/snowboard privileges for the season.
Safety is always our #1 priority. Our goal is to get every participant to and from the mountain safely. In cases of emergency, our chaperones will have a table on the upper level of the ski lodge at Shawnee. Each trip, the chaperones will have a list of all the participants’ cell phone numbers in case they need to be located while on the mountain.
Helmets are mandatory in order to ski/snowboard.
In the case that we have inclement weather, the Recreation Department will make a decision and notify families as soon as possible. Typically, the decision to postpone is based on whether or not road conditions are safe for driving. If any trips are cancelled, we will work with Shawnee to schedule a make-up date.
SHAWNEE TRIP DATES:
