JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Per Diem

Schedule:         Every Day (Monday-Sunday) - 6am-6pm (Day) & 6pm-6am (Night) or

                            6pm-11pm & 11pm-6am (Night Shift Split)
Wage:                $20.00-$29.00 per Hour

Definition: Under direction of the Fire Chief, performs the duties of a New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician in accordance with NJ 8:40 & 840:A regulations, and Scotch Plains Township policy. Must adhere to the Scotch Plains Fire Department EMS Standard Operating Procedures. Position includes driving and operating an ambulance, and providing emergency medical treatment, both at the scene and on the return trip to the hospital; does related duties and other assignments as necessary.

Knowledge and Abilities: Perform duties of an EMT under various conditions, operate an emergency vehicle, and lift and move patients and equipment. Execute the position as outlined in the above-referenced New Jersey Administrative Code. Position requires candidate to remain calm in emergency situations and must have the ability to establish a rapport with the patient. Ability to input electronic patient care reports on a mobile device using Zoll Emscharts Software. Capable of understanding, remembering, and carrying out oral and written directions assigned by department leadership. Able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English. This position must be able to work harmoniously with others and customer service excellence is required.

Education, Experience and Certifications Required: Must be at least 18 years of age and hold either a high school diploma or GED. Must possess a valid New Jersey State Driver’s License, current New Jersey State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic (EMT-P) certification, and current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification. At the time of interview, the applicant must submit a copy of all required documents.
