Scotch Plains Ranks Among Top 100 Safest Cities in New Jersey

Scotch Plains has been ranked 71st in the annual Safest Cities in New Jersey list by home security company Safewise. Last year, Scotch Plains was ranked No. 79.

"I am extremely proud of the men and women of the Scotch Plains Police Department and the work they have done in keeping the Township of Scotch Plains among the top 100 Safest Cities in New Jersey,” said Scotch Plains Township Police Chief Ted Conley. “We strive every day to make Scotch Plains a safe community for our residents and visitors.”

Scotch Plains is one of only five Union County towns to make the top 100.

To be included in the ranking, a town must have more than 2,500 residents and be above the median population for the state, based on U.S. Census data.

The rank is created by using a calculation of crimes per 1,000 people in each municipality per day.
