Residents Are Invited to Celebrate Scotch Plains Day on Oct. 3

Township residents are invited to celebrate all the great things that comprise Scotch Plains on “Scotch Plains Day,” to be held Sunday Oct. 3 on Park Avenue between Grand and East Second streets in the downtown. The center of the event, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be Scotch Plains Town Hall, 430 Park Ave.

Join fellow residents at noon for a welcome ceremony at town hall, in which the municipal flag will be raised and Township volunteers will be honored for their service. The Township will also unveil the newly installed historical kiosks on the Alan M. Augustine Green.

Scotch Plains Mayor Josh Losardo will lead the program, honoring the members of boards, commissions, committees and township volunteer coaches, who use their personal time to improve the quality of life in our community.

“Volunteerism has always been the backbone of Scotch Plains,” Losardo said. “We are tremendously appreciative of the countless people who are making a difference here at home. This community relies on its volunteers, who, together, are a main reason why this township is such a desirable place to live, work and raise a family.”

The event will include a municipal information table, in which all Township volunteers are invited to stop by and pick up a pin of appreciation, commemorating their ongoing service to Scotch Plains.

As always, Scotch Plains Day will include plenty of food trucks. Event organizers also are eager to showcase the local eateries in the downtown, noting such popular restaurants as Massa Roman Square Pizza, Darby Road, Max’s Pizza and Bistro and Soul Bowls.  In addition, the Stage House Tavern will celebrate Oktoberfest with a beer garden until 6 pm.

Entertainment will be courtesy of Theatrical Artist Prep and the Brother John Brown Band. All are welcome to participate in interactive, inflatable games. Government and community groups, such as the scouts, local houses of worship, municipal departments and sports leagues, will provide information on their organizations.

Union County will also take part, providing free COVID testing and vaccination during the free, four-hour event.

Scotch Plains Day is part of a weekend-long celebration. Join fellow residents on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. for a showing of "Casper” at the Alan Augustine Village Green next to town hall. Come early to decorate a pumpkin at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 2, you are invited to participate in the annual Rose Checchio Walk to Wipe Out Breast Cancer to support breast cancer research through Play for P.I.N.K. The event will begin at the municipal building, 430 Park Ave., at 8:30 a.m.  Register at playforpink.org
