IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR COURT CASE

Scotch Plains Municipal Court is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 3:45pm to answer questions and to schedule matters for court. Note: Payments can be made via NJMCdirect.com or by mail (check or money order only). No phone payments will be accepted.

The court will review your request and schedule your matter for a virtual session. You will receive an email confirmation with instructions on how to participate. To minimize exposure to COVID-19 and enforce social distancing measures. In person sessions have been suspended since March 2020.

The virtual municipal court session you are going to participate in is a formal court proceeding and has the same legal effect as an in-person court appearance; therefore, proper attire is required. To ensure that the virtual court session can take place as smoothly as possible, please observe the following:

1. DURATION OF COURT

Set aside enough time in your day to attend the virtual court session. By Court rule, attorney matters and trials will be heard first at 11am on a separate calendar.

2. Conferences with Prosecutor

All conferences with the prosecutor will be held the day of your court session.

3. You Must Come to Virtual Court

All cases scheduled for Virtual Court are mandatory for the session, date and time provided. Failure to participate in the Virtual Hearing may result in the issuance of a bench warrant.

4. How to Log into Zoom

*If you have Zoom downloaded on your device, click on the above highlighted meeting.

*If Zoom is not downloaded on your device, go to www.zoom.us and click "join a meeting." Enter the meeting ID and passcode (listed above). If prompted, click "join with video" and "join using internet audio." When waiting to enter the meeting, the screen will say "Please be patient, the host will let you in soon." Once you enter the meeting, you will be placed in a "waiting room." You may be in the waiting room for some time; please, DO NOT CLICK LEAVE MEETING, the court is handling other matters while you wait.

5. Procedure on your Court Date

Change your screen name to reflect your full legal name. If you are an attorney, please indicate "esq." after your name. Mute your microphone until your name is called. Remember to unmute your microphone before you speak and be sure to maintain a quiet background. Do not leave the court session until advised by the sitting Judge to do so. Please put your chat screen on (bottom of Zoom session) in the event the court is required to send you a message.

6. Submitting/Requesting Documents

7. Payments

All payments being made electronically shall be made by visiting the New Jersey Courts website at: www.njmdirect.com. Please note that the Scotch Plains Municipal Court ID# is 2016. You can also come in person to make your payment or mail in your payment to the above address. Please make all checks out to the Scotch Plains Municipal Court.

8. Language Interpreters

Scotch Plains Municipal Court provides language interpreters for persons needing assistance. If you need assistance, please inform the Court before the hearing.
