Scotch Plains Historical Society - Kramer Manor Program at Shady Rest TO BE RESCHEDULED

Kramer Manor is a historic Black community in Fanwood and Scotch Plains that celebrated its centennial in 1924 and was later recognized on the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail. The Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood will host a February 24 evening program featuring Jill Jackson-Jones and longtime Kramer Manor residents, who will share how their families built and sustained this once all-Black enclave that has since evolved into a vibrant, multicultural neighborhood. The free program begins at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Shady Rest Country Club, itself a Black Heritage Trail site, and will explore the challenges and triumphs of the community’s early residents. The Kramer Manor history project is a collaborative effort supported by Social Justice Matters, Inc. and funded by a H.E.A.R.T. grant from the Union County Board of Commissioners.
