Nationwide Recall Issued for 4,600 Pool Heaters Over Carbon Monoxide Risk

A nationwide recall of approximately 4,600 pool heaters is underway following warnings from federal safety regulators that the units can produce elevated levels of carbon monoxide, posing serious injury and death risks.

 The recall affects Hayward-branded HDFS400 Universal-HC Series 400,000 BTU dual-fuel gas pool heaters, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The units feature a brown body, black top, top digital control display, and measure 21 inches long, 28 inches wide, and 31 inches high. Model number "HDFS400" appears at the top of the nameplate below the vent.

No incidents or injuries have been reported.

The recalled heaters were distributed nationwide from March 2026 through July 2026 for approximately $5,600.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the heaters and contact manufacturer Hayward Industries to arrange a free in-home inspection and repair by a certified technician.
