'Five Jerseymen' Presented at Shady Rest on September 23
As delegates to the Continental Congress, five men from New Jersey risked their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to sign the Declaration of Independence on behalf of our state’s citizens. How much do you know about these “Five Jerseymen,” as they were known in Congress? Join Marylou Morano Kjelle as she presents her captivating presentation at the Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood’s opening meeting on Wednesday evening, September 23rd, at 7:30 PM. Discover the remarkable stories of Richard Stockton, John Witherspoon, Abraham Clark, John Hart and Francis Hopkinson, the New Jerseyans whose signatures etched history into the annals of time.
Marylou Morano Kjelle, a well-published author of numerous nonfiction books for children, is now venturing into the adult market with two exciting upcoming books in 2026: “Notable Nurses” and “Trauma in the Garden State.” Her recently published book, “Notable Nurses: Eight Women Who Showed the World What It Means to Care for Others,”will be available after this presentation. Beyond her own literary endeavors, Kjelle has taught writing to students at Rutgers University and local community colleges. She has also held positions as a former lecturer and as a reporter for the Westfield Leader/Times of Scotch Plains-Fanwood.
